Edward E. “Ted” Kaufman

Ted is a former United States Senator from Delaware where he served on the Foreign Relations, Armed Services, Judiciary, and Homeland Security Committees. In addition to his work on these committees he was deeply involved in the Dodd Frank Wall Street reform, advocating for science technology engineering and math (STEM) education, and highlighting the value of federal employees.

He is the author of the Pre-Election Presidential Transition Act of 2010. He helped in the Edward “Ted” Kaufman and Michael Leavitt Presidential Transitions Improvement Act of 2015.

He was co-author of the Victims of Iranian Censorship (VOICE) ACT and co-founder of The Global Internet Freedom Caucus.

He serves on the Partnership for Public Service’s Center for Presidential Transition

He serves on the Volcker Alliance Mission to Modernize the Federal Workforce

He is the Board Chair of the Biden Foundation

He serves on the Board of Directors for the Institute for International Education which is a private not-for-profit leader in the international exchange of people and ideas. He also serves on its Scholars Rescue Fund Selection Committee.

He serves on the Ministry of Caring Board and the Children and Families First Advisory Committee.

From 1991 until 2016 he taught at the Duke University Law School. During that time he also taught courses at Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy, and Fuqua School of Business.

He served from 1973 to 1995 on the staff of United Senator Joseph Biden, 19 of those years as Chief of Staff.

From 1995 until 2008, he was a Board member of the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG)

In 2015 he served as a Senior Adviser to the Vice President of the United States

From 2015 to 2018 he served on the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Equity Market Structure Committee.

He served 2014-2017 on the Board of the National Democratic Institute.

In 2008 he was Co-Chair of Vice President Biden’s Transition and served on President Obama’s Transition.

In 2012 and 13 He was a member of the Federal Working Group on Streamlining Paperwork for Executive Nominations.

After he left the Senate he was the Chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP)
